Since most Palau dive sites are far from the main island, expect a 30-40 minute boat ride (one way) for most locations outside the inner lagoon. Diving here is typically done in three-dive daily trips; once we head out in the morning, we stay out until the day's activities conclude. Lunch is served on the boat or on a deserted island, where you can enjoy your premium bento with a view of the endless Pacific.
Dive sites near Koror are mainly divided into four areas: the Ngemelis area to the southwest, the Ulong area to the west, the Ngerchong area to the east, and the WWII wrecks in the inner lagoon.
Ngemelis Area
Located southwest of Koror, this area is about a 40-minute boat ride away. It features world-famous sites like Blue Corner, the manta-frequented German Channel, and the Blue Holes, which are perfect for capturing those iconic "angel light" photos. These are must-see spots you won't want to miss.
Sites: Blue Corner, Blue Holes, German Channel, Dexter Wall, Virgin Blue Hole, Big Drop Off, New Drop Off
Ulong Area
Located in the western Ulong area, about a 30-minute boat ride from the main island. This area is a nursery for marine life, often featuring adorable baby sharks and rays. The Ulong Channel, carpeted in colorful coral, is also one of the world's premier drift dive sites.
Sites: Ulong Channel, Siaes Corner, Siaes Tunnel, Shark City, Sandy Paradise
NGERCHONG AREA
Located east of Koror, this area is about a 40-minute boat ride away. While not as famous as Ngemelis or Ulong, it hides many lesser-known gems. For instance, you can find baby gray reef sharks here from September to November, and the Small Drop-off is the perfect spot for a special "Nautilus viewing" dive.
Sites: Ngerchong Outside, Ngerchong Coral Garden, Short Drop Off
Inner Lagoon Area
For divers interested in war history or photography, Palau's waters hold remarkably intact relics, most notably the JAKE Seaplane and the IRO Maru wreck.
